Is Web3 not for women? At Syndika, we say a resounding NO!

While Web3 remains a male-dominated industry, with women making up approximately 27% of employees in leading Web3 startups, female representation in the space is steadily growing.

Women are increasingly stepping into key roles across various sectors within Web3, including HR, marketing, community building, research and analysis, legal and compliance, and education and advocacy. Their contributions are shaping the industry in fundamental ways.

“Joining Web3 through your marketing experience is a fantastic opportunity to bridge cutting-edge technology with mainstream audiences. Ultimately, entering Web3 via marketing not only broadens your career horizons but also contributes significantly to the ecosystem’s growth and inclusivity,” – shares Valeriya Ignatieva, Business Ecosystem Manager at Syndika.

Our Member and Founder & CEO of Thravos, Ellie Sarmadi, also believes, “You don’t need to be a developer to thrive in Web3—your unique perspective and skills are valuable in shaping the future of the space.”

Women’s impact on Web3 is gaining recognition on a global scale. The Vogue Business 2024 100 Innovators list features several women leading technological advancements in fashion and Web3, proving that the industry is evolving beyond traditional gender norms.

Moreover, according to BCG research, female representation as speakers at Web3 conferences is three times higher than that of men. This growing presence signals a shift towards a more inclusive and diverse ecosystem.

At Syndika, we know all this first-hand: our syndicate proudly includes leading female Web3 founders and marketing experts, alongside a management team that features a Global HR Officer, an HR Manager, a Business Ecosystem Manager, and a Content Manager—all actively contributing to the core team.

“Web3 encapsulates the ultimate reshuffle of traditional structures allowing for a user-centric internet native behavioural and economic model. The access point into Web3 simply identifies how these novel parameters reprogram all segments of social and economic milieus. It can be perceived as an overwhelming and unpredictable industry, but it still remains the most accessible for anyone with an idea, who now has unlimited exposure to community enabled tech,” – says Ioana Surpateanu,  chairwoman at Domin Network, NED at CryptoUK, and Syndika Member.

Our team firmly believes that Web3 is open to any woman eager to drive technological innovation forward. Here are some essential steps to get started:

1. Build a Knowledge Foundation

Before diving into Web3, it’s crucial to understand the basics. Start by exploring online educational platforms, reading newsletters from industry leaders, and staying updated on major developments.

“First, learn the theory through online educational platforms and newsletters from major companies. Then, attend events, gain insights, and check CoinMarketCal for upcoming launches and airdrops,” shares Aigerim Omarbekova, a Web3 marketing expert and Syndika Member.

Ellie Sarmadi reinforces this idea: “If you’re a woman looking to break into Web3, start by leveraging the skills you already have—whether in marketing, product management, design, or finance—while learning blockchain fundamentals.”

2. Hands-On Experience is Key

Theory alone isn’t enough—practical experience will set you apart. As you learn about blockchain and cryptocurrencies, start experimenting:

✔️ Create your personal crypto wallet.
✔️ Register on top centralized (CEX) and decentralized exchanges (DEX) to understand the processes.
✔️ Engage with blockchain applications, even on a small scale.

“To enter the Web3 space, you need to be open to challenges—even if you have zero knowledge in crypto. I recommend checking out basic courses on blockchain technology to understand how this space differs from Web2. And for sure, create an account on a DEX or CEX to deposit USDT or another token—it’s the best way to get hands-on experience” – Valeriya Ignatieva, Business Ecosystem Manager at Syndika.

3. Network and Join Communities

In Web3, your network is your net worth. This industry thrives on community-driven innovation, shared knowledge, and collaboration. Whether you’re a newcomer or an experienced professional, building strong connections can open doors to job opportunities, mentorship, investment prospects, and cutting-edge insights.

“Web3 is about community. Either start working for a blockchain company or join syndicates, Telegram groups, or local gatherings to surround yourself with like-minded people,” confirms Aigerim Omarbekova.

Web3 is for Everyone

Despite the lingering gender disparity, Web3 is not just a technology revolution—it’s an opportunity revolution. Women are no longer on the sidelines; they are actively shaping the industry’s trajectory, leading innovative projects, driving community engagement, and redefining the future of digital economies. From marketing and business development to legal, research, and technical roles, female professionals are proving that Web3 is an inclusive, ever-expanding frontier.

This leads to a clear message: Web3 isn’t about who you are—it’s about what you contribute. With a decentralized ethos at its core, the space rewards innovation, collaboration, and adaptability. Whether you’re a developer, a strategist, a designer, or an entrepreneur, there’s a place for you in Web3.
